Immersive XR Media Training at Chu Hai College
Fatbars is back at Chu Hai College of Higher Education with our Immersive XR Media Training course. The goal is to promote a collaborative and diverse immersive environment. Every immersive experience should ensure inclusivity, eliminating the barriers caused by availability and affordability of software and devices. This will encourage more people to create and engage in different kinds of XR worlds, expressing themselves creatively, and working together with anyone anywhere virtually.
Inclusivity in any immersive XR experience is crucial. We wanted to bring this message into our training. This course engages each student to create their own immersive space, to showcase their media work, including those they generated using Stable Diffusion.
Stable Diffusion is a deep learning, text-to-image model released in 2022. Primarily used to generate detailed images from text descriptions. We believe the class needs to know the potential of AI as a tool for content creation. That’s why we introduced Stable Diffusion to our class, empowering our students to create their own AI images from text and populate them in their very own Immersive XR art gallery built using Mozilla Hub.
We wanted to take things to the next level by adding augmented reality elements to the project. An additional Augmented Reality experience can be activated in each of their AI art image, when viewed through a mobile AR app Artvive. 3D models build in Blender can be used in their immersive world, would also appear to be”floating” above their images in AR. Making the whole experience even more immersive.
The best part of the course was seeing groups of students coming together to immerse themselves, visiting each other’s galleries at the same time, using their own devices (whether it was a smartphone, tablet, PC, or VR headset). It was such a rewarding experience to witness how they were able to create an inclusive environment where everyone was welcome to participate in this amazing adventure!
