Hong Kong Film Professional Training Programme
Designed around the needs of the Hong Kong Film industry.
The needs of film production industries evolve differently around the world. This is especially true with the raise of digital contents consumption. Hong Kong Film Industry needs is also evolving. Bringing new talents into the industry is crucial. Production work can be challenging and finding the right people can be hard. To find those right people to hire, the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers organised a short and intense training programme, designed around the actual needs of the Hong Kong Film industry : The 4th Hong Kong Film Professional Programme
A successful program starts with the right instructors. Hand picked by top film associations in Hong Kong, the instructors took time off from their professional careers, to bring their rich industry experience into each of the classes. Students get hands on practical skills that industry can used and need today.
This year, we have the privileged of joining the instructors’ ranks with others like award winning cinematographer, Mr Henry Chung, in this intensive 7 months full time training course. Both Sze Chianly and Samantha Goh from FATBARS, taught in the Post Production class, conducting Colour grading with BlackMagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve and Visual Effects with Adobe After Effects CC respectively. Other professional classes include Associate Director, Camera assistance and cinematography, photography and Lighting. Students picked their elective classes to learn to work for that industry sector.
Throughout the training course, there were master workshops where different class discipline come together to shoot, produce and posts production projects. Companies like Sony, Red , Arri and BlackMagic Design brought their equipment to the school. Allowing the students hands on experience on industry standard equipments, which they otherwise might not be able to get to. For post production class, it was important to make sure that the entire crew, including the lighting and camera class, understood how to properly light and shoot green screen. Visual effects needs are highly regarded, as it is essential and included in almost every single post production. Budgeting both time needed and production cost are essential skill set, best learn in a training scenario.
The programme is coming to an end and the students are now working towards producing their final projects. We want to thank the Federation for this opportunity to teach in this programme . It has been a privilege for us to be involved in the training program. We look forward to their graduation and hope to see their names on the big screen very soon.
