Design 3D models in Virtual Reality and 3D print out
Both of us were trained on very expensive 3D graphics animation software that no longer exists today (it was the 80s). Maybe you have heard of them : Alias Wavefront, Softimage, TDI ? They don’t exist anymore. Currently, we are Blender fans. We did this thought experiment a while back but wanted to reshare our experience here. The question was “ Is it possible to go straight from Virtual Reality, design and make the 3D models file. Go directly to do a 3D printer without needing to fix the model on a regular desktop software. No Maya, No Cinema4D, No Blender. No AutoCad.
Not only did it work then, it works better than ever now with the crazy improvement in both technologies. Designers, time to leave your mouse and dive into VR frontier. Your next creation awaits. It was a learning curve. Not knowing what size you are modeling in or the limitation of printing the design out was a challenge. From Digital to Analog.
Personally, it felt really good to see my 3D model design up close and personal, able to build and ‘walk around’ my 3D world. My robot in VR was 3 storey high! It was actually quite tiny when it got 3D printed out.
Thank you for reading.Have you tried to design in VR and 3d print out your work? Let’s discuss.
